What is Geaux Show Love?
The mission of Geaux Show Love is to encourage, equip and empower children to Geaux (Go) Show Love to others and to our Earth. It is the umbrella 501c3 nonprofit organization of Bear Share and Geaux Green.
10 year old Julianna Gouthiere started Bear Share in May of 2013 at the age of 6. Her project donates new or like new (but dry cleaned) stuffed animals to children going through difficult life situations. As of June of 2016, Bear Share had donated over 10,000 stuffed animals to children in 5 states! Organizations and agencies who have received stuffed animals for the children they serve include: The Louisiana Foster Parent Association, The Philadelphia Center, The Gingerbread House, Cara Center, Shriner's Hospitals for Children, Providence House, Shreveport Fire Department, The Salvation Army, the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Department, Louisiana State Police, Geaux Bags, The Center for Families, and many others!
11 year old Joey has always been interested in the environment, and when Julianna started Bear Share in May 2013, he wanted to start his own project that encouraged everyone to take care of our Earth, so he started Geaux Green. In the first few months of his project, he was able to secure a recycling container for his former school, A.C. Steere Elementary. He also adopted the garden there and had regular work days for the past 3 years where he and others picked up litter and took care of the garden. Hundreds of people have joined Geaux Green, including members of the Rotary Club of Shreveport and South Shreveport Rotary Club, Louisiana Senator David Vitter, Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator, Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover, the 2014 Shreveport City Council, the 2015 Shreveport City Council, Mayor Ollie Tyler, the Caddo Parish School Board & Superintendent Lamar Goree, the 2015-2016 students of A.C. Steere Elementary School, and many others. Now a 6th grader at Youree Drive Middle School, he has already proposed a “Geaux Green Club”. He has written into SPAR because of the graffiti at the skate park and has been successful in having it cleaned and removed. He has gotten recycling containers for the A.C. Steere Park. His short-term goals are for every school in Caddo Parish to begin recycling, for Bossier City to begin curbside pickup for its residents, and to start an annual mission trip to participate in Coastal Cleanup Day.
Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
